Okay, so, I'm on welfare right now. And in talking to my case worker she mentioned that there is a special medial fund available to me... and she thinks it would be possible and likely a good use of that funds to have my name legally changed. And I agree! I've been going by my chosen name for more than three years now, but I've never had the funds to finance getting it changed. It makes things awkward, especially when trying to get a job.
The things is, though, since it is not a regular use of the funds (like getting glasses, or extra dental money or some such) I have to write a letter explaining why this is such an important thing.
And I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing that. I mean, I know why it is important (makes job hunting easier, eases my mental health, makes many situations less confusing, makes hospitals a little less scary, and on...), but I don't know how to accurately express that to her higher ups, who likely aren't trans and don't understand how dangerous and cumbersome a deadname can be.
So I was hoping that maybe someone here had had a similar experience and had some advice about how to word things, and how to format this letter?

I have absolutely no experience with this but maybe it would help to write how the name makes you feel or something?
