Years ago, humans colonized Caelum in search of a valuable element called Accendium. While their relationship with the native species, the Shard, was civil in the beginning, things turned sour when an old threat rose anew. Now there are only two humans left, living reluctantly with the Shard. Skye and Krystal, along with their only Shard ally, Kite, must help protect the village that took them in against the onslaught of Raaed, a sentient parasite that is slowly evolving to overtake more advanced species. When Skye and Kite go off to search for aid for their village, they’re forced to face the truth of Shard society and the nature of the planet-wide war they’ve been caught in the middle of.
(My boyfriend's book is being published soon and I wrote this summary for his cover since his was... well, awful. Please share your thoughts. All rights to the ideas and story alluded to in the summary belong to him)

A summary on the cover may not be a good idea but it could work if done right

Well I mean like how you have a summary on the back or in the cover flap, you know? I also ended up changing that first sentence to make it sound less like Avatar.

The back is a pretty standard place to put it but if the summary was integrated with the art it would look cool

I mean it's not my book so I don't have a say in where it goes. I just want to know if it's compelling

Here let me put up the updated version:
Years ago, humans colonized a distant planet that they called Caelum.
It's not great but it's way better than the summary the author wrote. The book is fantastic but I know that I tend to decide on whether to read a book or not based on the summary on the back or inside the front cover.
