Explain non-binary to others

try ingraining in them that gender is not black and white. it's a rainbow! a color wheel full of all sorts of variance. not everyone fits in the boy/girl binary that society has drilled
into our heads; and these people are non-binary! they simply don't feel bound to our black and white gender boundaries. in my case, i just don't like being defined by a gender.
i like simply existing as a human being. but it's different for everyone! the key to explaining it is to reinforce the idea that there are not just two genders!
