You probably know the kind of setting I speak of. Typically consists of: (under spoiler for list)
(o) Pseudo-medieval setting where everybody is healthy and clean unless the Big Evil Antagonist sets a plague upon the hero's hometown. Prone to medieval stasis. Electricity, unless magical, is almost nonexistent.
(o) Elves, dwarves, humans, halfling/hobbits, are all protagonist species and inexplicably all white.
(o) Orcs, trolls, ogres, etc. are always evil and/or brutish. There may be one exception within the entire continuity of any story.
(o) The Big Evil Antagonist is dressed in that point black skull armour. Probably a necromancer. Probably wants to take over the world. Probably related to the hero or caused the hero's family's death.
Your thoughts and opinions on such settings. Do you like them? What do you think could be improved? Have you read/watched any good pieces of media that don't subscribe to the Standard Fantasy Setting? What's your favorite series that is contained within a SFS?[/span]

I think the second one is my biggest beef with fantasy series, with the third one being closely tied into the second. Orcs, trolls, ogres, etc. are often given non-white features.

The first one always bothers me but the fourth one is pretty much in every plot and I honestly can never get enough of it
