I'm wondering if it's worth me adding two 512mb sticks for RAM to my HP Envy h8-1414. I salvaged them off a desktop I found on the side of the road.

be careful doing that, because the RAM may not be the same power level (MHz) as the ones currently in your computer and could short out your computer entirely! it's best not to mix brands of ram due to the variance of timing and voltage, as well as speed!. if you know the brand of the ram, then you can maybe do research to find the specs of it and compare! but personally, i wouldn't recommend it!
i ran into the same thing when my grandfathers old pc died and i wanted to put his old ram sticks in my computer, but it was just too risky.
