This is absolutely amazing. It's from Rolling Stone, too, so I don't think it's bullshit.
EDIT: Moved this to the News forum.

Barack Obama's been a decent president in regards to that sort of thing, that's for sure. I'm looking forward to things moving forward even faster. This is why it's so important that everyone gets out and votes.

yessss
idk as presidents go there have been far worse I tend not to get too enamored over any politician though but I do try to look at the good they've accomplished and he's done a lot.
but it shouldn't have taken the suicide of a teenage girl to push this into action. Leelah killed herself; that can never be undone and not only is she gone forever, from her friends and family, but the driver who hit her will live with that his entire life.

Ah, I was actually reading about this not too long ago. I'm glad to at least see the American Government pushing for something as great as this. Sure, it's quite disappointing that we couldn't move this into effect earlier, but I appreciate we could finally take a step towards this goal. I mean, personally, I find this extremely heartwarming, especially after Governor Mike Pence of Indiana recently signed a law for "No Gay" signs to be allowed (terrible, right?). There's people in this world that wish for the worst of individuals who don't conform to their "standards" or "views", and the best we can really do right now is fight to show said people that they're the ones at fault because we have feelings too.
It truly dismays me that it took citizens committing suicide for the government to not only realize that this was a worldwide problem, but to actually put a ban on conversion therapy. In the end though, my enjoyment for this outweighs the disappointment, because it means that Leelah didn't just die for nothing. I don't ever want to see children and teens having to go through the same problem as her due to their parents forcing them into this "therapy", and though we lost a wonderful person the day she died, I really do have high expectations for our government to make sure she didn't die for nothing.
In her suicide note, she asked us not to be sad, so let's not. Instead, let's learn from her and her parents like she requested. What her guardians did was wrong and truly affected her, and people need to recognize this. Parents need to realize that they're actions and words affect their children, and doing as Leelah's parents did, trying to change their daughter, was in every way wrong. You're supposed to love your kids for who they are, and I hope theyre happy with what they've done, because not only did they lose a lovely daughter, but they continue to treat her as if she was a son. If that doesn't say anything about her parents, then I don't know what will.
Again, I'm glad to see that our government is taking steps to prevent trans+ suicide in the future, and though we might possibly never completely put it to a stop, there are still things we can do to try to help. Especially for future or current parents, never try to change you children, they are who they are. As for other school kids, it's important to encourage and comfort others, because your words can really make an impact.

The law in Indiana has actually been repealed after all of the backlash.
But yes, I totally agree and that's a really good contribution!
